What this site is

An independent guide to the Sagano Bamboo Forest in Kyoto and a comparison of six guided tours that visit it, from a 45-minute rickshaw ride to a ten-hour city circuit. The grove itself is free and ungated, so the comparison focuses on what each tour adds around the free path: access, routing, bundled admissions and guiding.

Where tour data comes from

Every price, duration, rating, review count, inclusion list, age limit and accessibility note is read from the operator's own listing on GetYourGuide on the date stamped on the page. We copy what the listing states and write "None stated" where it is silent; we do not fill gaps with guesses. Sale prices are recorded as shown at the time of checking and flagged as such where a higher list price was displayed alongside.

Where grove and temple facts come from

Free entry, the 24-hour path, the rickshaw-only lane, temple fees and hours are checked against the temples' and operators' own published information and against recent first-hand visitor reports: Tenryu-ji garden ¥500, Okochi-Sanso ¥1,000 including matcha, Iwatayama Monkey Park ¥800 cash only, all verified August 2026. Seasonal facts that drift, such as evening illumination dates, are stated with their last known run and a warning to re-check, not presented as permanent.

How tours are ordered

The catalog leads with the listing whose access or track record is strongest for the keyword the page serves, and demotes thin evidence: a 5.0 rating from 2 reviews ranks below a 4.8 from 5,217, and the page says so in plain text. Commission rates play no part in ordering; all six tours pay through the same platform program.

What we cannot verify

We cannot verify individual guides' performance on a given day, exact pickup times that operators confirm only after booking, or weather-dependent substitutions such as the winter pause of the Sagano Romantic Train beyond what the operator publishes. Where a fact depends on the operator's word alone, the page attributes it to the listing rather than asserting it.

Corrections
